Hello, I am a little bit confused: I found this group on Facebook: Quilting Free Patterns, but to me it seems a really strange group...
Often they post a quilt with the text: nobody likes my quilt, and as I am a little sceptical I made Google picture search an d often I found out that the pictures are taken from someone other who made this quilt!
I think that is not correct!
Has anyone of you made this experience?

I don't do Facebook, but it sounds to me like it wouldn't be a 'fun' group to be with. Not to mention the picture posting that are not theirs. Sounds snobby/vindictive.

sounds like some kind of scam group. I hate those posts, "No one will wish me a happy birthday" etc. It's called like-farming, they try to get a lot of likes on their post. Plus they are usually using a stolen picture of a sick kid.

I had joined an opossum group (I think they're cute!) but it turned out to be run by spammers. Someone would post a picture of a T-shirt, "My autistic daughter designed this and is trying to sell it" but the link went to a large commercial site. I'd report the spam and then got kicked out of the group. This happened twice.

ETA - just checked it out, someone used a photo of QOV from Dayton OH and all the rest of their posts (not in the group) are in Portuguese. And apparently changed their profile photo from a young woman to a middleaged woman.

ETA2 - it's also full of romance scammers (men)! Guess they flock to where the ladies are!

I agree with ptquilts. It is a scam group. All kinds of random stuff not associated with serious quilting.

My guess is it is for like-farming. Get a lot of people to like the pictures, get a lot of people to follow the page, then you have a valuable resource you can sell - a FB page with over 300K followers.

I stay with private groups. At least the spammers if they do manage to join get blocked fast. If you click on any post to go to that site you will get a lot of random ad posts. Never do that unless you want to see nothing but ad posts. Facebook has become almost useless as far as trust. Never buy from an ad on Facebook.

If you are in the market for free patterns most of the fabric makers have their own site freebies. Also there is a place called quilter's Cashe dot com. Lots of block ideas there for free or a small donation for the site (totally up to you)Oh, Elenore Burns site has some too I think.

I'm amazed at the obviously fake ads that FB allows, they seem to come in waves, like for discount postage stamps or "Louis" purses (they never say Louis Vuitton but they show pictures that suggest it). And the "W@lm@rt is selling stand mixers for $2!!"

I report them all, it probably doesn't do any good.

I've always wondered about Pinterest. They post everyone's quilts, even mine. i was surprised to see mine there. oh well, internet privilege.
