help using directional fabric
I am wondering about using directional fabric for borders do you cut fabric horizonaly or vertical I hope you get what I am trying to say.
I watched a video on utube they cut it single layer the long way
Has anyone had any experience with this type of border??

I usually try to go with what suits the top. I put the long vertical sides going straight up and down but then….do I want the stripes circling the quilt top or cut the bottom and top cross the fabric to all go the same vertical direction?

If it has feet, the feet go either to the inside on all four sides or to the outside on all four sides. Whatever is the dominant feature of the directional fabric, follow the previous rule. If there is no dominant feature, just suit yourself. Peace and grace...

I have used it both ways. I have cut the length and across the fabric so "words" are vertical. I have also used it so the words are readable around the edges. Each border turns at the corner in a miter. It's your choice.

I just used a very directional fabric for the border of a quilt I'm currently working on. I cut the fabric lengthwise so I could have the images facing the same direction all the way around. This is a relatively small quilt (crib ?? size) and that plan worked perfectly. If you have a larger quilt and have to seam your borders I would suggest doing the same thing to give yourself as much leeway as possible to match the pattern within the fabric strips.

I think it would depend on the quilt. If there is a top and bottom, then I would do it like @aashley333 . But if it was an all over pattern, like a trip around the world quilt, I would make the borders so the bottom of the directional print faced the middle. Then it would be right side up no matter how the quilt was oriented. I think the best thing to do is to audition it so you can see what it looks like. Don't forget to take a pic so you can compare.
