    Default Quilting Season

It's starting to feel like fall around here. We'll have one more hot spell and then the weather will turn absolutely lovely. It's time for long walks in the woods and sewing up some new quilts. Summer is just too hot up in my loft to sew, and so I wait until it cools down. I'm excited! I have a few UFOs that I want to tackle and hope to get going with some new designs too.

I'm looking forward to Fall and the cooler weather. I find I do more quilting in Fall and Winter vs. Spring and Summer.
    Good luck tackling your ufo's.

Fall marks the beginning of the school year and somehow, even though it's been a long time since I went to school, I find it's a time for new beginnings. My local quilt guild meetings start up again after the summer off, some online blocks of the month start, and I start a few new projects. The weather also helps as there's not as much that needs to be done outside yet, as you say, it's a good time for long walks. Enjoy this fall!

This will be my first full fall/winter season in the sewing roon that was once our three season room....larger than my old sewing room, but also much colder in the winter. We have a small heater out there that helps and ceiling fans to help circulate the air. Still not looking forward to being cold. I may have to go purchase a second heater and pre-warm the roon to make me want to go out there once the weather really dips down. Have a ton of scrap pieces I want to use up and can stay busy all season if I can make to roon liveable.

I haven't touched my quilt machine since April 2023 and the quilt is still on the frame 2/3 done. Lost my mojo all that time but I did make some new throw pillow covers for the sofa so not totally out of touch with sewing. Finally finished a flimsy that's been on the design wall for say 3 years, just needed the 2 sashings and border added but now I just finished that yesterday. Came out at 107x107 so my backing will not fit and I'll have to start looking for another one that's not directional as the one I had picked out before. Now I have Elizabeth Hartman's dinosaur blocks up on the design wall and will work on that until it's finished. I'm using all the cutoffs, scraps, etc to add to the sides as I feel it's too narrow for the little boy's toddler bed. I'm making the larger size. Once that's done, I'm hoping I'll be in the mood to finally finish the quilt on the frame as it goes to the spare bedroom. I have yet to make a quilt for my bed though I do have the pattern and fabrics pulled out for it. It's the French Braid pattern as I've never made one before. So wish me luck that I won't lose my mojo again before I can get back to the quilt machine. The gardens take up most of my time during the summer and it's been slow growing this year for some reason.

I guess, I may just be the odd one here, I don't have a quilting "season". I piece and quilt all year long. Oh, of course there are times when I quilt less, this year because of a medical issue, but I am just as likely to be quilting in July and August as in fall and winter. Sew on you seasonal quilters. Bask in you joy of the cooler days and brisk walks in the colored foliage. Then.. the snow and crisp days of snow or cold rain. I love them too.

Suz, i feel for you. I've also been in a slump. for far too long. I have been cleaning out my sewing room a lot, plus my bedroom and closet and kitchen. But I"m getting closer to wanting to sew again, just have to fix my machine. sigh.
107 inches is huge but you can make it!

I’m with WMUTeach, in that I don’t have a season. My studio has no AC but if it’s too hot to sew there, I do hand work in the house where it’s cooler. I’ve also been know to get over to the studio early morning hours. You would be surprised what you can accomplish in a short period of time when motivated. LOL

We don't get change of seasons here, really. Winter is just a series of cold fronts. My temperature quilt shows 60 years of temps on my birthday in October. Ranges from 90s to 50s!

I don't have a quilt season either. My sewing room is warm in winter and cool in summer so it doesn't make any difference to me what temp it is outside.
