Default Star Log Cabin AKA Spangled

This is a Kim Diehl pattern I got at my LQS. The pattern I think is new-ish and was made with a more current fabric line. I bought a 12 fat quarter bundle of Kim Diehl fabrics about 6 years ago and I guess was waiting for the right pattern to come along. Anyway, I decided this would be a good match. The pattern called for 26 fat quarters and I only had 12 which was plenty. It would have had more variety/scrappiness to it, but it would also have had a lot of left over fabric. Kim's patterns are mainly scrappy so that works for her. The pattern did not include the checkerboard top and bottom borders, but I had already cut the fabric and wanted to use it up. During this process I decided I should not wait 6 years to use up fabric! I like it very much and am a huge fan of Kim Diehl. Thanks for looking.

Oh ekuw, this is gorgeous! I had seen something similar but the courthouse steps block didn’t have the Star in the center. Of course it was in RWB but I still haven’t made it. I will soon have to make it or this one for QOV. I just love yours and who cares how old the fabric line is. You still made a beautiful quilt!

Ekuw, your quilt is absolutely stunning! Thank you for the pattern information. I am part of a log cabin challenge hosted by my LQS. This pattern might just be perfect!

I haven't seen that pattern before, and I love it! More than that, I love what you made with it. The colors are wonderful, the added checkerboard is great, good job!

That is gorgeous! Your checkerboard borders really set it off nicely.

Nicely done...good idea using the little scraps for the checkerboard top and bottom. Is this something for you, your family or a very lucky charity donation?
