My friends mom passed away two years ago and while going through her things she found these old embroidered blocks and asked if I could put them into a quilt for her. So of course I said yes. When I got the blocks and realized the size of them and it was determined that I was able to make two full-size quilts with the blocks and had four left over that I’m going to turn into two reversible pillow covers. My friend helped pick out the colors that she wanted the quilts made of; one is predominantly purple, and the other one the pink. I quilted them differently, one with a little bit more now design (stipple with some leaves), and the other one in a traditional clamshell pattern and I actually really enjoy how this clamshell pattern turned out. These quilts and the pillow covers will be headed to Florida on Monday. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at them. Now back to quilting the next project.

I can just imagine the woman cross stitching and embroidering these pieces. The time that she spent on these is to be valued. I am glad your friend decided to keep them and chose you to finish her mom’s work. Too few people appreciate this handwork anymore. I used to do both hand embroidery and cross stitch, so I know the time it takes and also the sense of satisfaction you have, when it’s completed. Like all our quilts we do now, we did it because we love the creativity. As the Golden Girls would say, ‘thank you for being a friend’.
