One of my Christmas guests will be a 15 year old young man who for several years has had an interest in Japan. He has a double bed. I have made the main part of his quilt from indigo Japanese fabric, using Japanese block designs-- Susan Briscoe "Japanese Quilt Blocks." The blocks are 7.5" and the quilt is now about 52 x 58" (QAYG). I don't have enough fabric left to make more blocks. I would like the quilt to be about 78 x 89 so it could fit either a double or queen sized bed. The quilt looks black and white but it is indigo. I was going to do three borders--one in solid indigo, a pieced border and a third in solid indigo. I pieced part of a border but thought it did not work at all. I am considering using a 12 or 14 inch wide solid indigo border but this seem to be a somewhat extreme solution. I have considered adding sashiko style machine embroidery to the border. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/386535580500561920/. I will heavily machine embroider the border. I am open to all suggestions. Make the quilt smaller? I do hope the picture is small enough that you can't see my many, many mistakes.

the super-wide border would work if you do embroidering (in white) that coordinates well with the block styles.

Beautiful quilt! A wide border is all you can do if you want it big. Patrice's suggestion to embroider with white like your pininterest photo shows using sashiko style will work. Keep it simple in the borders. The focus of the quilt should be on that beautiful pattern you created with those fabrics.
