    Default Deluxe corner trimmer

Do any of you have this ruler Deluxe Corner Trimmer and Hand piecing Aid by Marti Mitchell AND do you find it useful? It has holes and I thought it would help me mark the points or dots. for Y seams easier. That is what I would use it for.

I never hesitate to purchase templates that make my quilting life easier. If I were doing Y seams it would be a must have for me.

I use to have one like that and another one that looked like, either Jenny Beyer or Fons and Porter one. Someone told me they looked like torture devices. LOL I never used them so gave them to another quilter. I took a great class on how to sew y seams. Don't sew up to 1/4" sew up to 1/2". It sure makes it easier especially machine sewing them.

I had one, never used it, and sold it to someone who was looking for it.

It's not hard to make one out of thin card board or clear plastic from a takeout container's lid. Try it out and see if it is helpful to you. If it is helpful, and you'll be using a LOT a purchased one made out of durable plastic may be worth it to you.

I've done Y-seams a few times, and I've just marked a line 1/4" over from the edges of the fabric for the last inch, on each piece of fabric involved. Where the lines intersect is where you want to stop sewing. (See this video at 0:37 for a nice illustration of the lines intersecting.)

I have one (I think I got it as a gift) and it's still shrink-wrapped. It might be useful, but I've never attempted to use it...it's just in a drawer.

I have made plastic templates, but I would like a sturdier version. I was thinking 3D printing for a template but don't who could make one. Anyone know where to send me?

I have made Y seams before by marking 1/4 in intersections but time consuming when it is a lot to mark. I thought the holes in this ruler might save time.
In the meantime, I found a YouTube video and am making my 8 point stars a different way with no Y seams.
Thanks everyone for your input. I think I’ll hold off buying a ruler for now. The 8 point Star I just made called for a special ruler. However I just used my 45 degree line on my rulers and came out perfect. I have 9 more stars to make before I can sew all the blocks together and show you. Of course it’s another Quilt of Valor-(smile)
