Cool I found my sewing table!

Only took me 4 hours of uninterrupted work time, Dh was still sleeping, to clear off my sewing table, reorganize, and toss out lots of crap. Now I have a basket filled with file folders of future projects. Two cute quilt themed coffee mugs for sewing notions. The cleared space to the left of my sewing machine will make it easier to quilt these quilts for Project Linus. Next weekend will tackle the stuff under the cutting table. Oh what surprises lay waiting for me!

Doesn't it feel great? To get things tidied up, and to find "lost" treasures!
I need to get some deep sorting/organizing done too!

I had to completely clear out my sewing areas when we re did the upstairs flooring. I tossed out soooooo much stuff! Now it's clear and organized. The only problem is remember where I put stuff!

Julie, when I saw the title of your post, I thought you had found and bought a new sewing table. Good for you for getting it organized. It's something we all have to do periodically.

I did a little decluttering today too. Only one shelf but it has given me motivation to do more. Why do I feel the need to hold on to fabric not used in years? Ugh, it's overwhelming and I need to stop thinking how good it will be used in a quilt. I'm not going to use it so I need to stop insulting myself. I have too much newer fabric unused to think about the old unused. That bin full of scraps is giving me enough guilt. I won't use those either so off to retreat free table they will go.

I just wish my table would stay clean and organized longer! Having a longer cutting table means I just shift things to the end I'm not using. Until it builds up to the point that I am forced to clean it up again. I have tried to retrain my brain to do things differently to no avail so far. Maybe I should buy a shorter cutting table. LOL

My friend says that any flat surface will gather clutter. Truer words were never spoken.

I just wish I could remember where I stashed stuff when I do clean up.

It feels great when everything is organized where it should be. I'd let the bins under my cutting table get cluttered with scraps, orphan blocks, etc clutter the area instead of putting them into the bins they belonged in.

After I had finished my Drunkard's Path quilts, I decided to go thru my stash and pull any fabric that didn't sing to me any longer that were on the shelves, then hit the bins under the cutting table and pulled all the oversized scraps, orphan blocks, etc. Put them into bags by color if possible or type like all the fat quarters in bags together, border fabrics together, whites together and so on. I ended up with nearly 15 bags of fabrics stuffed to the gills. Fabric does get heavy when you try to lift up a number of bags at one time not to mention how they like to slide out of your hands. But now my bins have nothing on top of them but just another bin. I can put my hand between folded fabrics on the shelves as before they were just stuffed in. I was able to use the shelves that used to hold my collection of DVD movies for the partial bolts that have been inhuge totes under the quilt machine so now I can see what fabrics I have to work with. Those totes now hold the pillow forms I had thrown up on top of the freezer and the box of battings still in their packing box upstairs is now in another tote so I'm slowly putting things where they are most needed and clearing out things I no longer need. It's a great feeling.

I also like to vacuum after I finishe a project before starting another one. Right now I'm working on 2 projects going back and forth with them depending on what needs done. Should have them both nearly done or completely done by the end of this week. YEAH!!!! One is a UFO from 5-6 years ago.

Having a cleared space does make a difference. Having two sewing area's right now I have double duty to do today. The area where I actually quilt is our 3 season porch and has been terribly cold. So we moved the sewing machine into another room on a folded table with a small cutting mat, and set up the ironing board also. Braved the cold this past weekend and quilted two small Project Linus quilts, so now that area needs to be cleaned also. Need to take time to reorganize everything in both spaces. Why don't we have little elves that come at night and do this for us???
