My husband has hundreds of books downloaded to his Kindle. He reads all the time. I ask him who he wants to leave his book library to when he dies. All anyone needs is his Kindle and account info. Really a lot of money on that Kindle in books. I'm hoping one of the grandboys will love to read as much as he does.. He never thought about the e books he has as being something to pass along. All the top authors of mystery, suspense and sci fy.

No one in my family reads books.....they prefer pictures😂like in movies, etc.
My Kindle is on my iPad, so it will be wiped clean and the storage used for other stuff.
All my passwords are logged in a paper notebook, so DH can unsubscribe with my passwords and delete all accounts.
At least the money your DH has spend on all those books, gave him many hours of pleasure.
Hy used every sent he spend.
So it was not wasted.😁👌👌👌

He has the Paperwhite Kindle that only download books. No other content. His account will be closed out but the books will remain on the Kindle. I had a nice chat with an Amazon rep. The e books are on the Kindle to stay, no account needed to be used only the pin to open the Kindle.

You can gift a Kindle w/password as said, my books are on my Ipad using a kiindle app. no way to pass that on as my passwords die with me. Which is fine with me.

Did you know if you have a Facebook account, you can add a beneficiary to be able to access your account to save photos, close your account, or keep it after you pass away? It's called Legacy Contact. Free to set up and can be changed at any time.

I have a Kobo (Canadian) and archive most of my books into my account online once they've been read. I love reading on my e-reader but keep a physical book also on the go as well. The Kobo is for bedtime reading since it's so easy to hold and the lit page doesn't tire my eyes. I should look into loaning books! So often I've read a book and thought "so-and-so would really enjoy this book" but I can't exactly just give them my device. Like Onebyone I have a Bookbub account but it's led to me owning too many mediocre books. I count them as fair exchange for the gems I do get.
This is an interesting topic, having never thought about an e-reader as passing along a library.

I was looking at my book list on Amazon this morning to leave a review. I started using the Kindle app when my eyes becan failing in 2015 and have slowly increased the font size, what a blessing !!!
Anyway I have 673 books held currently. (our town library here is Very expensive and very small)
Curious how everyone organizes their books?
I leave the ones that is downloaded in that folder and usually have 2-10 there.
If I hate it within the first few pages I ask for a refund and it gets deleted that way
If read but I'll never read it again I delete it completely
I do reread my books, some I've read 4 or 5 times. Those I have in 7 different folders by type
In those sections I move them around so they are always in the order they were published in which makes it easy to read a series again.
Every coiuple of years I delete the app and reload it so they don't take up any space again until I start redownloading as I read.
OnebyOne, this is a great subject, even if we always do manage to shoot off in all directions. I Love to read and am so grateful to have the tech to be able to do so.
