My Star Block Sampler 7/5/09
#1
Hello everybody! I've been putting my main projects on in order here, but I want to put this one on now, so I skipped one. I'll post it next. As I've mentioned before, I am fairly new at this, 1 1/2 years. I don't usually make anything from a pattern. Oh, I will eventually but right now I'm still just making what I want.
I don't have any one around here that I can bounce my ideas off of, since my Mom just won't cooperate! She just tells me to use a pattern. Anyways....so I just end up doing whatever I want. It may not be the 'norm' but I like them.
I was reading a topic by ranger, sorry if I'm not suppose to put names on here.

Thanks everyone. I knew I would get lots of ideas here. I had looked at Quilter's Cache and googled but most of the blocks called for a consistent background. I liked the Basket of Chips block from Quilter's Cache. Hadn't even thought about looking at the quiltville site. Scrappy pinwheels and Jacob's Ladder are good ideas but I've already made those patterns so would like to try something different. I think I will start with Boston1954's idea...separate them into colors/sizes.
Danmar, thanks for the link.....great blocks there.
You're quite welcome! And think about it, just because the pattern calls for "a consistent background", that doesn't mean that you have to do "a consistent background. Now I'm going to have to post another quilt that I did, to show you what I mean! There's really nothing "consistent" about me, except making quilts "MY Way"! Thanks!
Have a Great Day!

Sorry if this is too long. I thought I'd show this quilt top that I made to show what happens when you use multiple background fabrics. I used 7! I love color!!!
As for how it turned out, pretty awesome. I sold the top on ebay so I'm not the only one who liked it! Use your imagination and have fun with your projects! You don't have to stick to the rules! I sure don't!
I had never done hardly anything except squares and HST's so I had decided to make a star sampler because it would require me learning to do SO much more! It was a great way to learn to do different blocks and pieces!
Sorry about such a long post and so many pictures. I just couldn't decide which ones to put on, so I put them all!

No wonder you are proud of your blocks they are beautiful and I really like your layout using the 4 patch squares, I can see why you make your quilts this way rather than sticking to a pattern. I also tend to make blocks I like and then assemble them without necessarily staying to a pattern layout

Thanks, again, for so many inspiring pics. You have excellent taste in colors and balance and your work is top quality. No need to aploigize for so many pictures. This is better than looking at a quilting magazine. They are fabulous...keep posting!
