Hello and welcome from the north east. Good luck finding a machine that you can quilt with. I see you started a thread in the Main section that has gotten some helpful comments already. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-41298-1.htm

In my search for a machine that has good stitches for stippling, I have decided on a used Bernina. Haven't bought one yet, but have been looking at the prices of them on eBay and Googling information about them.

There are lots of good sewing machines for the amount of money you want to spend. The Handi Quilter is a long arm machine, you just want a good sewing machine I think. I like the elna Quilter's Dream, a lot of the people on board like Janome, Pfaff, Bernina, etc., the last two are a little more pricey for me. It also depends on what features you're looking for. One thing though, I would stay away from the low end Singers. They're not the machines they used to be. I, personally, would recommend that you go to a dealer that has several brands and test drive the ones you would be interested in. I'm sure you'll get lots of help on board and I want to welcome you. There's lots of friendly, talented people on board who will help in any way they can.

I have made a couple of quilts by piecing the tops together on my VERY cheap Brother sewing machine and then hand quilting them.

However, now I have some extra money and would like to get a really good quilting machine. I called a local sewing machine store, and they told me that they would recommend the Handi Quilter Sixteen, which is $8,000.00!!!! I DON'T have THAT much money! LOL! I don't really want to spend over $2000.00, but I don't know what kind of machine to get or where to get it.

I'd love some advice from all of you quilting pros!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Cyndi. Welcome from East Texas. I have a Babylock Quilter's Choice Professional. I dearly love it. Has a big throat for quilting & free motion quilting. Also has the 1/4 in foot for piecing & a bunch of other stuff. Check it out. Also it will fit into one of those frames like the Pinnacle by Grace.

Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. Glad to have you here. Are you looking for a better machine to piece with or one to machine quilt with?
