can anyone tell me how old this brother machine is and what model it is . it has been in a closet for a few years now and i am thinking of selling it thanks

Does it have any kind of numbers on it ? Maybe call Brother customer service ?

it does have some numbers but i am unable to read them i need new glasses abot every three months so when i get the money to get new glasses i will let you know the numbers

i have been told the brother is about 45 years old

The case is not in great shape, how are the bobbin housing and the mechanics underneath? If they are rusty, not so good.

I doubt that this machine has much value. I often see this style of machine in thrift shops for $25 or less. Only some of the old machines are considered collectibles -- mostly black Singers and old Berninas. I don't think the Brother machines are considered collectible.

You might want to join a vintage sewing machine group at http://groups.yahoo.com , especially if you can find one for Brother machines, and ask there to be sure.

just pluged the machine it works and is quiet almost quieter than my new machine no rust in moving parts light workes bobin case is in good shape

I am sure it runs well, Brother is a great name, but it might not have any monetary value. I often tell new quilters to get their machines at yard sales, that is where the REAL value is. I am NOT a fan of any of the newer sewing machines with all of the plastic parts. What you have there is a gem, to you, and me.

I think if it runs good as you say, I'd keep it for a backup machine. you never know when it will come in handy!

I have an 4 year old "new computerized" Brother machine - Love it! But I also have GREAT vintage machineS that are smooth and quiet and make beautiful straight stitches.

I also love the knee control feature on the Singer I'm using to piece some Texas Braids on. I keep telling myself I'm exercising my thigh while I sew! LOL Now I only have to figure out how to sew with my left leg so it gets the same workout! ROFLMBO

IMHO: If the machine runs quiet and smooth and makes beautiful stitches - clean it up, set it up and use it!
