Hi all! I'm brand new to this board, and also really to quilting. Closest I've come so far is some patchwork, but I've never truly quilted. I have a lot of sewing experience, but I have a current project I'd like to tackle and I'm looking for some advice.

I made the chuppah cover for my brother-in-law's wedding this weekend, and now that it's over, I'm going to make it into a quilt and give it to them as a wedding gift. I would love some suggestions on the best way to go about it. What I have now is basically a 44" wide length of green calico (with a white stripe and all-over chrysanthemum print) bordered by 22" wide white leafy print strips on either side. Backed with white muslin. So it's pretty simple, yet totally meaningful and my new sister-in-law kept saying how much she liked the material, so I don't need to change that. But I do want ideas on how to quilt it nicely (and obviously, something a newbie can do). :o)

I have one idea, but I'd like to see what advice I get as well! Thanks so much!

If you don't want a basic straight stitch you have a couple other ways to go. As a beginner you can print out patterns and stitch over them onto the fabric or practice and try free motion quilting

Oh and Welcome to the board

    welcome from Long Island NY.
    great idea...
lets see, you can quilt their names and date into the fabric,
and do borders of flowers, maybe put their name into a heart or..put therie names in a heart and embroiderer,(i do all this by hand) and do the other infor around it. I live on LI and like beach stuff, so I would down load outlines of sea life and quilt that deign into the fabric. try something like that. you could floow the design from the katubah around the edges. let me know what you do

lynnie - I LOVE the idea of putting their names and wedding date on it...looks like I need to practice my free motion quilting! First time for everything, I guess. :)

go to word, wrte names in a font you like, hand emb on ctr with date, maybe emb or quilt a feathered heart around it. You can uuse outline stitch for all of this, then just quilt lines diagonal avbout 1-1/2" all around. good luch and have fun!!!
let me know what you do
