I will go on a one week trip on sunday and was looking for a project to take with me.
For my current project of minis I found grandmothers flowergarden with 1/2" hex too "big". By looking at the shape I figured that 3 lines added would give a tumbling block....

I hope to show a mini with tumbling blocks by the end of my vacation........

put paper shape on, trim and proced like grandmothers flowergarden

cut 60° angles out. I ironed the seam open

cutting a diamont shape and sew an y seam

Granny 59, You are brilliant! I am going to try this as soon as I get home from my trip to your wonderful country. Are you going to the quilt show in Bern next weekend? I'm hoping to be there either Thursday or Friday. What excitement!

I got it from a tutorial on this board. You sew to the middle, keep the needle in while lifting the presser foot and "turn" the fabric so you can finish with a straigt seam. Clear???
In this case I had to turn with the help of tweezer and pin, but it worked. It got little after trimming, before the size was manageable.
@Judith: enjoy yourself. I am sadly out of the country. One quiltshow in Switzerland and I miss it!?
