Love your quilt so far. My vote is Mariners Compass. I googled mariners compass and most of them look outlined and then in between the points they echo the points. On your other blocks I would do a star pattern in the center its a nice big open space for something pretty. Then outline the rest of that block. I can't wait to see your finished quilt it's going to be beautiful.

I like them both but the mariners compass is more striking.

#2-Mariner's Compass...I like "medallion" quilts. I would add a border around the center and sashing to the others. Would love to see it completed so keep us posted.

Now the other problem that I am having is trying to figure out how once the top is finished, how to quilt the quilt. any suggestions would be helpful. I am also very new and have only done a decorative stitch in the ditch.
the blocks in the middle are just samples I have made for another quilt the will be having these same blocks in them. making a twin bed set for my son for when he is moved to a big boys bed.
I can see your dilemna! My only advice would be to assemble it WITHOUT the cat! LOL

They're gorgeous, but I really think I like the second one better, put use the first one in a pillow case, wall hanging or something.

I don't have any answers to your questions, but I just wanted to say that it looks like your cat approves of the whole thing.
