Hello everyone. This is a 'great' forum. I've been lurking for the last 3-4 weeks and have learned so much already. I'm impressed with the attitude of the members...so gracious.

Just a short bio; I am a new GrandPa as my name implies and it's great! Also, I am retired due to some neurological stuff similar to MS/ALS, it's really neither...but it's hard to explain. But... I'm not letting being wheelchair disabled stop me. Moving on...

I've been looking for something to do and decided to explore quilting when our daughter gave us a learner machine, a Brother XL3750. It's really good for me to learn and will do a lot except FMQ. I have been practicing on small things and just finished my first top for a lap quilt. I can't wait to get it finished and quilted. I'll make a photo when it's done. Quilting is FUN...and addictive. :-P :-P

One thing and it's a biggie I'm sure you all are familiar with and that's building my stash. I didn't know fabric was so expensive! That will slow me down for sure but all in time. Any hints on building my stash would be appreciated.

So, here I am and loving it and I hope to be a productive member!

My regards to all...
GrandPa

Welcome Grandpa from Munford, TN!

One thing I do to help build my stash is buy a little along each pay day. There is no way I can afford to buy a huge lot at once, and I can't afford to buy kits. I keep my eyes open for sales at places like Hancock fabrics, etc. My stash is still a small one, but it is better than when I started.

Hello and welcome to the Quilting Board. I just got my Brother XL3750 last wk. and I love it! It is my first machine and I could not be happier! As for collecting stash I was lucky because a sister gave me some of hers . I also went to Hobby Lobby and spent more than I should have. It is hard to walk away. I made my first lap quilt this wk. The cat loves it and I still have to do the binding.

Hello, and welcome from Missouri. I build my stash by watching for sales, and going to estate sales and garage sales. I also watch for fabric in thrift stores. One of my LQS has a Sale Wall and discontinued fabric is there at 40% off or more. It becomes a challenge, for sure.

Welcome!
try the freecycle in your city
http://groups.freecycle.org/chattano...le/description

see if there is a quilt group in your area, like a community center, or a church. usually they bring fabric in they no longer want anymore..
good luck and happy sewing!

Grandpa,
Go to this thread immediately and PM her to see if it is still available. It would be a huge help in getting your stash started :D

Hi Grandpa from new York. It's nice to meet you. Build your stash a little at a time. I look for sales and goodwill shops. You'll be amazed at how fast a "stash" builds up. It is very addicting.
Happy quilting and looking forward to pics.
