I am new to putting a label on a quilt. When I give my quilt a name, are their any legal guidelines to follow? Do I need to see if the name I choose is copyrighted? Any suggestions will be welcomed.

I would be interested in the reply to this too, not that I have called my quilts by name yet, I may have called them a few names while making them,

I guess another question would be - should I even give my quilts a name? Or should I just put the necessary info - who, what, when, where?

It just depends, sometimes I name them, sometimes I leave that up to the receiver. Sometimes I don't even put a label on them.

The name of the quilt may be of interest to the one who receives the quilt. However, good to put name of maker, date and any other important info for future generations to see. It is recommended that quilts do have a label because

.....if you don't label it and give to a son or daughter,
after you have passed on the mother in law may take credit.

Labels YES! Naming the quilt...not so much unless you're entering a show. I've never "named" a quilt. Takes too much brain power.

I think names or titles are things that can't be copyrighted. I always name my quilts.

I hae begun to embroider, by hand, my first name, JAN, and then the date. Just dont have the cash to have those wonderfully printed labels.
