When I started quilting I wanted to build a stash, so I bought 200 4" charms on ebay for a reasonable amount (cant remember) and when I received them I was pretty disappointed in the prints. I didn't think they were very pleasing to the eye especially all together. Well 3 years later I have started a new chapter in my hobby, applique. Now I have stumbled upon that baggie of once useless charms and WOW the possiblities. I am so excited to use them.

Just goes to show--if you hold on to things long enough, you'll find a use for everything. Glad they're coming in handy.

yay! See, stash building is always a good thing - you never know when you'll need something!

I also had a collection of 4" charms. Most have been worked into quilts but I had a few that I just couldn't find a use for. They were pretty bright and some wild prints. I'd seen the advice that the best way to use "ugly" fabric is to cut it into small pieces. I used mine in a quilt with 1-1/2 inch squares and a dark blue background. Seemed to work for me.

I have some fabric that I've held on to forever, not even sure how old it was. But I like to experiment with the patterns (tutes)on here, And it is now a WIP and will end up being a lap size quilt. I never get rid of fabric.

I adore scrappy quilts and I have a huge stash. Some of my older fabrics are trugly-- TRULY UGLY.

But I believe that anything cut small can be cute and useful. If I hated the fabric, I'd slice it into 4 two-inch squares. Then sew them into cute little three-inch finished 4-patches.

I guess that is a good reason not to "try" to use up our stash; instead hang onto it and someday it'll turn out to be exactly what you need. Now I'm not feeling guilty any more :D

That is good that you have something that you'll be able to use now that at one time you didn't think you would. :) Yeah You!! Can't wait to see pictures!! :D
