Sometimes I wonder if I will ever, ever reach the skill level some of the quilters here on this board have reached.
I enjoy looking at the pictures of the different quilts that you all make, but must admit that i'm also very envious of your skills. Hopefully with time, practice and patience I will someday be able to make quilts that well.
Until then, practice, practice, practice. :-)

I agree with you. There are some skills I'll never attain but I find if I stretch my comfort level every once in a while I gain more confidence. I'm just enjoying the journey:)

I have the mechanical part mastered. My downfall is design and use of colors! I don't think I'll ever be as good as those others based on these deficits

I know what you mean. I am totally left brained, and have to get my color clues and design ideas from copying other people. As far as getting better, that is something that comes with time. I am amazed sometimes that I am now comfortable with techniques I thought I would NEVER be able to do. So hang in there and have fun.

YES, YOU WILL!!! Time and practice, plus challenge yourself and try new quilt patterns. Take classes, sew with friends or do group sewing - you would be surprised how much you glean in these groups. Enjoy, relax and have patience, you will get better. ;)

Forget what others are doing and don't use others as your guide. Master your technical skills, do what you like and enjoy and what is comfortable for you
And above all.......creativity can be in simple things. It is not always the top prize winning quilt. Do your quilting thing/style and do it the best you can and stop trying to copy others. Ue thers for inspiration but make it yours If you contstantly try to copy others but fail then you will live a life of quilting frustration.

I know what you mean. When I see pictures of some of these big quilt shows and the level of mastery that is in those quilts I think to myself I will never be that good. But practice and perseverance will get us so much further then we ever imagined.

One of my greatest LA quilting inspirations was our own Green Fairy. She recently posted on her blog pictures of her LA quilting when she first got started. It is postings like this that REALLY inspire me. To see what she was doing when she first started and what she is doing now!

I feel that no matter what skill level I have there will always be others who I feel are superior to me in that respect. So I just enjoy myself with whatever I'm capable of while striving to learn and improve from others.

My Skill level will always be a bit limited by my lack of skill! I do pretty well to find great color combos and can imagine a design based off of a design, but sometimes in the execution, some not so pretty things happen. Ah well, Learning every day. Plus, there is only so much I can do on my specific sewing machine....
