Default What thread to use????

I would like to hand applique a wall hanging and was wondering what thread would be the best for this. I did some hand applique many years ago and used a thread by Mettler 60/2. Don't even know if this is still available? Would love some tips on the threads everyone uses for this method. Thank you in advance.

If you are doing needle turn appliqué then thread that matches the appliqué works best. The thinner the thread the better so some use silk thread. I just use a good thread in the correct colour.

I do a lot of applique and prefer the Mettler. If you don't find it local, I use www.roserushbrooke.com I ordered 8 spools and shipping was $2.60.

Thanks for the post on Mettler. I am finding it hard to find a reliable source for Mettler silk thread. They do have the embroidery thread too.

I like Aurifil 50/2 because it comes in so many pretty colors. I buy the 200m spools from Hawthorne Threads.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions on thread.

Hi "Tiggersmom"-yes we are practically neighbors. My husband and I go to Prescott alot and love that city. Do you have a special place you purchase silk thread?

I tried silk thread, and yes it does blend nicely, but I found it to be rather expensive.

I had a donut full of Bottom Line bobbins in assorted colors (Superior Threads) and tried it for applique. It blends as beautifully as the silk.

Bottom Line
