Question Old model long bobbin singer

Can someone please help me with a little problem with, I'm not sure which, a 27k or 28k machine The SN says it was built in either 1912 or 1915
.Its about the shuttle case that holds the bobbin. It might be simple I don't know. On the shuttle thats the arm on the machine itself not the actual removable shuttle. There are two holes one top one bottom. Is some missing in these holes. Ever picture I have seen of this type machine has what appears to be some kind of lever to hold the end of the shuttle in place, is this lever necessary to hold the end of the shuttle in place. The shuttle on this machine just sits in the hole and I guess rattles around.

Second small question on this model which, I know this sounds funny, end of the bobbin goes into the shuttle, the pointed or the other end. Singer is pretty specific when winding the bobbin I just wonder about that here.

i would appreciate any help I can geet here.
Thanks

Default missing piec

I thanks for the reply.
I see in your picture that I have one of two problems. In your picture, just to the right of center there is what looks like some kid of clip at where the end of the shuttle would be, mine does have it. In fact there is only a hole with another below it. I have tried to put a piece of wire in thru the holes but the shuttle is in the way. Could it be that my machine has the wrong shuttle. The machine sews fine but the shuttle just flops around in the carrier with nothing to hold it in place. My SN is f521305, if that helps any.
