Atlas Sewing Machine motor -- Oil or Grease?
I recently purchased a vintage pink Atlas 1640 and I am wondering if the motor takes oil or grease for lubrication. I understand some machine motors take one and some the other. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Most Japanese machine motors take oil. If it has a tiny little hole on each end just above the center then it takes a drop of oil every 6 months to a year depending on how much it's used. It doesn't hurt though to clean the inside of the motor first.

Thanks, Carl. It does have holes. I am assuming the oil goes into the one that is closest to the center, above the shaft (if that is the correct term), not the two that are in the 3 and 9 clock positions when viewed from the end. These are more toward the outer edge.
