Default Got my order from Marshall Dry Goods

I wanted to increase my selection of flannels for a rag quilt I want to make for my sister in Colorado.
I purchased six different pretty shabby chic florals from Robert Kaufman so far. Couldn't find these types of patterns that I wanted without spending between $9.00 to $10.00 a yard. I wanted to add some solids to the mix and decided to take a chance and try some of Marshall's Dry Good Snuggle flannel.

I just received them and wanted to say I am impressed. The feel is so soft (and snuggly) and yet the weight is very substantial, even more so than the Robert Kaufmans.

I prefer not to pre-wash them, as that is not advised when making rag quilts. I would like to order some more but before I do, I wanted to see if I could get any feed back from the board as to how they wash, and if there is any pilling with these fabrics. They sell for $4.95 a yard (more than their typical $3.95 yd. fabrics)

Can anyone share their experience with them. I am talking specifically the Snuggle line.

I don't have any information for you on the flannels. But I don't understand why it is not recommended to pre-wash them. If you do pre-wash you find out if the colors bleed, and if the flannel pills. Flannels often shrink unevenly, so you also get that out of the way. The only reason I can think of not to pre-wash is that flannels do tend to ravel, which is why they're so wonderful in rag quilts.

I think has to do with the ragging and also the stability of the fabric after it is washed. Several YouTube quilting guru's have said this, and even some manufacturers like Maywood. You can test color fastness by the wet rub technique as well, though it may not be as good as washing.

For rag quilts, you get better results in the 'ragging' if the fabric has not been prewashed.

I have washed all the flannel I have ever used first and so glad I did as it shrank so much. I don't buy cheap flannel but it still shrunk. The reds I have used almost always bleeds and the black also.

I ‘wash’ precuts in a pot of hot water, even bringing it to a soft boil. Lay flat and air dry
