I have 2 Roku units, my original one has a '3' on the top of the unit, the other is the Premiere+. I use the + unit and would like to know if the '3' version, being registered to me, will it work if my girlfriend wants to try it at her house.
Also does she need WiFi to use it. I only use the Roku+ to watch Prime movies/shows.
Friend and I only use roof top antennas and no movie subscriptions.

Am a widow and no family to offer input and not a lot of people use a Roku.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

I will send the link to my friend to see if she has someone to figure things out. But my concern is, will it work with the '3' being registered in my name.
The site is mostly about everything new and more than my +unit.

People have traveled with their Roku and hooked up to the hotel's wifi. I don't see why you couldn't do so at your friend's home. Here's a link on how to from Roku's website https://support.roku.com/article/215...o-the-internet Hope this helps.

Your friend does need internet to use a Roku as it is a streaming device. She would also need subscriptions to Prime or Netflix, etc., that she wants to watch. She may need to go through a set up routine in settings on the device. Currently, everything is set up to recognize your account when you go to Prime, etc.

When I wanted to quit paying my expensive cable bill I had to figure out how to get internet, that I still needed and cable company was way to high. I hooked up antennas to all of my TV and I get crystal clear TV, then I contacted my cell company, Sprint, I got internet unlimited on a tablet for 25 a month. Now I have internet no matter where I go. I can hot spot up to 5 gig a month. I'm saving about 150 a month, my house phone is also under Sprint for 20 a month and I can take it with me as well.

Thank you romanojg for the info on using Sprint as my friend might be looking for a new cell carrier. For me Sprint only works in the kitchen standing next to the fridge. Told my family to look for a snack while using their phone at my house.

Bottom line is that yes you need the internet to use Roku. But, she can do it wired or wireless. You can give it to her and she will just change to user info. When I received a newer version, I gave my older one to a friend and she is using it. She only wanted some basic use so it is perfect for her. As far as saving cable moneys, we can not use antenna (nothing is receivable in my area) and cable costs kept climbing. I 'cut the cable' and now have SlingTV with my Roku. I think I actually have more things to choose from now than before and at a very much lower cost. I did add dvr service $5 per month and AcornTV $4.99 per month and get so many British and Australian shows. With all this I am still paying only about 40% of what I used to pay and there are even cheaper options with SlingTV.

By registered in your name, I assume you have a Roku account at roku.com? If this is the case, you can sign in to your account at roku.com, click on "my account", scroll down and you can see where you can unlink the Roku device from your account. You can identify which unit you want to unlink by its serial number.

It's a good idea to unlink the Roku from your account so that, if you ever decide to add a credit card to your Roku account (an easy way to pay for channels such as Netflix, for example) you won't get charged if your friend decides to subscribe to a paid channel.
