Default Quilt guild challenge

Our guild members came up with wonderful original projects. We were told to bring in a magazine and then clear our minds and open it to page x. Write down the first thought that came to our minds and let that be our inspiration.
My thought was sewing machine and that got me thinking about how the women who influenced me growing up, my mom and my grandmothers, were are talented sewists. So I ended up designing a dust cover for my Bernina, it includes sewing related mementos of these women. Some leftover fabrics from a window covering project my mom did and beads from her stash of embellishments that she added to Barbie doll clothes that she loved to make for pocket money. From my paternal grandmother who was always making dresses for me and my dolls, I still have a button jar. I used to play with this jar of buttons as a young child. And my maternal grandmother was a talented ‘tatter’, I have a few pieces of tatting from her that have been residing in my box of laces. One was the perfect length to add to my dust cover. It is nice to be reminded of them whenever I sit down at my machine.

Cute cover! My granny used to let me play in her button box as a child and I inherited it. I use them and add to it so I will never run out of special buttons. Lovely 2 colour tatting!
