Default Can you iron over painters tape?

There are wonderful suggestions and tips to be found on this board for using painter's tape when quilting!
However, while reading them it made me wonder what would happen if one ironed over the tape while it is on the fabric. Has anyone had this happen?

I don't think you should iron over painter's tape. You would probably have a big mess on the quilt and your iron.

Please remove the tape and don't iron it.

Hi and welcome - Honestly, I wouldn't risk it - I'm sure it's got some plastic-like materials that could melt...plus the adhesive on the other side would probably adhere permanently to your fabric, making it really difficult to remove. What are you trying to adhere? Maybe there's another product that would work better we could suggest?

As already said, I too am concerned about what might happen if the two meet up!

I use Painter's Tape regularly, but try to NOT iron it.
That said, sometimes it happens. Accidentally!
So far, no problems ... but the time and amount of tape pressed is minimal.

You could always do your own test and see what happens.

Ironing over any tape is probably going to melt the adhesive into the fabric.

"You could always do your own test and see what happens."

Sounds like something to try with a piece of ugly fabric and some protection for the iron
If I ever get around to it I'll let you know the results.

I am in total agreement with everyone else. Don't iron over any tape the sticky residue will remain on the fabric not the tape..

I agree with the others, but there used to be a tape on the market that was designed to be ironed over. I think it was called “hot tape” but not positive that was its name.

I doubt it, but try it on a scrap and see what happens.
