Default Crazy Quilt Help

I am making a crazy quilt using velvet. What should I do next after I have it pieced. I want to use batting which I know will make it heavier but that is okay, I stay cold. What do you suggest for the backing & is there a way I can hand quilt instead of tying?

Velvet will be too thick to do traditional hand quilting but you could do the big stitch method with perle cotton. There are several demos on big stitch quilting on YouTube. Instead of using batting, perhaps just a plush backing would work better?

are you machine piecing with your decorative stitches? If not, have you thought about piecing with decorative machine stitches and then using ties that can be "hidden" in stitches later to quilt? Think that would look very vintage and cool.

If you take a thread from the fabric and burn it in an ashtray you can find out. Synthetics will melt and natural fabrics burn.

"Synthetics will melt and natural fabrics burn" Which is washable, synthetic or natural?

I am watching this thread because I inherited a roll of navy velvet and have no idea how to use it for a quilt project. Please show some pictures
