    Jerrie,

I've made 4 of these rag quilts now. I love these, they go together so fast. I've made them all with cotton fabric on the front and back. I usually use flannel in between but on one baby rag quilt, I used batting. It was alot lighter than flannel. If you use flannel, just cut your blocks the same size as your cotton blocks, if you use batting, be sure to cut them 1 inch smaller. You can use any fabric you'd like. There are a few on here who have made jean rag quilts, they are very nice but very heavy, I'm sure. I don't know if you were planning on quilting it or not. But, if you use flannel, you don't have to quilt your blocks, however, if you use batting, it would be best that you do. Be sure to post pictures when you complete it, we'd love to see it. :)

Jerrie, I just finished 4 rag quilts for the grands for Xmas. One was a jean, 9 in sq. flannel in middle and on back. The other 3 were cotton
on front flannel in middle and back, 7 in sq. they are for girls.

I've made many, many ragged flannels and have always used flannel with Warm and Natural batting between the flannel squares. I'd love to see one done in cottons.

Hmmm, I wonder if everything would go evenly through the machine if you used different weight fabrics?? It's tricky sometimes when I have different weight flannels. But my machine is ancient.
I'm saving old jeans to make a denim one--but I'm just going to sew squares together--and rag it--no batting or backing. That will be the easiet quilt I ever make. but I wonder how many needles I'll break in the process??? :?

I think the flannel works up best too, after making ones w/flannel, but
cotton fronts. The all flannel rags better. Right now I am cutting the first one I made deeper as I just snipped the edges, being afraid to cut to deep, it doesn't rag enough. :(
