I'm entering a challenged called "Liberated Quilting". Okay that's a stretch for someone who is traditional and likes to sew in straight lines  But I gave it a try and I think I'm going to get this finished.

My original plan was to have a nice 1/4" black "frame" around the basket block, but wait a minute that's regimented, not liberated--so I made it wonky. I need to make the handle darker so it shows up better. Will probably use a black binding on this. Hope to send this off at a later date.

    Liberated Basket--finished size SB about 9 x 12

That's really nice. Love how you combined all the fabrics and color.

Gladie; I'd never guess it was you who made the little wonky quilt, so I see you did well outside your box!! Did you enjoy the process? How will you quilt it?

    Nicely done!

I like the texture element of your handle. Do you suppose you could tea/coffee dye the sisal? It works well with the wonk-ification of your overall design.

Maybe come up for other uses? as I suspect you have a somewhat endless supply!

    Thanks folks.
jillnjo--guess I can escape from box if this doesn't look like my work!! The process grew on me. Actually had done the basket about a month ago and wasn't all excited about it. Some things just have to simmer on the back burner a bit! Looked at it yesterday and said let's do something, so pieced the outer border which took a long time! I think big stitch "wonky" sewing is the answer. Right now am piecing the back, experimenting with a crazy basket look.

QuiltE--I have already coffee dyed the handle and it still isn't taking on the color I need--I made a new one with darker twine and black thread--now where did it go? Okay--had the 2 little ones all day today so going to relax in the sewing room!
