I've made other bags that call for just one layer of fleece in them and I find they do not hold up very well. They have no body and and don't stand up well. I had no trouble quilting the bags using Pellon 987. The Bow Tucks bag is one of my favorites and I've made a lot of them, for myself and for gifts.

I used the fusible fleece on my Bow Tucks, and I used it on inner and outer pieces, and it worked out fine. I used the walking foot as I do with anything I make with batting, and had no problem. If you did not use a walking foot, try it and see if it goes through the thickness better.

I made the mini bow tuck purse and found that when stitching is required through many layers, I changed to a JEANS needle. Stronger and able to handle the layers, this worked just fine for me.

I made one a few weeks ago (still haven't posted pictures) and I don't remember the directions saying to use the fusible fleece on both the lining and the outside fabric. I only used it on one, and it was plenty. And mine turned out nice, too.

I use the heavier fusible fleece for the outter part and a thinner fusible for inside and pockets...
I also do not do any quilting on them since i am using fusible .
I also use a board for the bottom which really hlps with the shaping and the stability of the bag.

I have made several of them and use them all the time. I think you definitely need the fusible on both sides--you need the thickness to give it body. If not, with use, it gets floppy and loses it's shape.

I use the 987 fusable fleese. Have not had any trouble sewing it. And I do llike it on the inside and out also in the outside pocket. I just use flusble interfacing for the inside pockets.

I have made a bunch of bow tucks. I have only used the heavy fusable interfacing. and only on the outside pieces not the lining. also used it on all the pockets.I use a piece of plastic canvas for the bottom to stiffen it. Just made a pillowcase type sleeve about 2" longer than the plastic and tucked the extra inside. I like using 2 layers of the canvas.Good Luck and enjoy it. Mary

I've made 5 of these so far and have tried different combinations; fleece on both outer and lining, fleece on only outer and nothing on lining, fleece on outer and interfacing on lining.

IMHO and it's only MHO, I like the fleece on the outer and a med. weight fusible interfacing on the lining and inside pockets, I also reduced the fusible on the handles because they stood at attention and I felt that they should be softer. For the handles I like half the fusible.
