I reversed the lights and darks in the checkered patches so they'd look as batty as the blocks from 1 Oct.

It does look like bats!! I wonder if you could work that into a Halloween project?????????????????

they might look good at each end of a table runner. or as corner (or border) blocks on a wallhanging with a panel or applique in the middle.

I was thinking the same thing! Using the Flying Bats block with the Road To California would be a striking quilt.
