I have only participated in one swap (on-going at present) and everyone has been wonderful.

As Amma said "Everyone is very encouraging, it is fun and exciting chatting about them while making, sending and receiving them."

    I couldn't agree more.

I do swaps on this board. I like a little control...so I joined the one block/month which lists exactly what you want to get, and the boomerang - there we sent out the fabric and people sent back blocks. In boomerang we could also specify if we wanted certain colors, etc. I have loved both these swaps. I have not been disappointed at all. I like trying new blocks also, and this gives me the chance.

I wish the swaps were unwashed fabric, I don't like to prewash at all.

It's been years since I joined one. I worked really hard on the project I sent and received nothing in return. Worked hard on another one and got one back that looked like it was just done
to get it over with, was not appealing.

How do you join a swap on this forum? I'm new here, and it sounds like fun, but I don't know where to go to see what is available to join.

Isn't it funny how we are our own worse critics and a lot of us, including myself feel our work is inferior to others. I see a lot of you putting out absolutely beautiful work and apologizing that it is not perfect. My friend and I were amazed when we got acquainted, each thought the other had all the confidence in the world until we got to discussing how we felt about the things we do and both felt that everyone else's was so-o-o much better.

I've done a couple of swaps on this board and really enjoyed them. I think, going in, you have to have the mindset that this is a diverse group...economics, experience, and taste...and resolve that you will love whatever you get. It's the friendship that counts. Sure, some won't come through, but most will. What might look thrown together could very well be someone's best effort. I haven't done any lately because I'm not in a position to do much sewing right now. Getting ready to move to a bigger apt. and hope that my sewing set up (or lack thereof) will change. I miss my sewing room!!!!!

go to the section for swaps, to get there you go to "home", then under categories go to "member swaps". Scroll down to see what is still "open". I know the One block/month is open. We get new partners every month. I really like it. There are lots of people on it willing to swap more than one.

It's a common malady of almost all women. Somehow we grow up feeling inferior, worthless, not as good as, contemptible, negative; about our boob size, our height, our abilities, our usefulness, and any other thing that identifies us as a woman. And we are our own worst enemies. I've sought for years to discover the underlying reason(s) behind this. I went to shrinks to get over the depression of feeling worthless. It helped some.
But nearly every woman in the world will at some point in her life have this horrible feeling that she just doesn't measure up. Not to her mom, her teacher, her husband, her kids, her employer, and mostly the expectations she has of herself. Maybe some one out there in cyber-land has an explanation?

Due to health issues & having both knees totally replaced last July, I haven't felt the best. I did join the Doll Quilt Swap in Oct 09 & it was great. Eddie from AR was my partner & he made the cutest 1930s retro fabrics with small blocks/pieces & it is adorable. If you look on the Oct 09 Doll Quilt Swap site, you'll see the one he sent me & the one I sent him, with Sunbonnet Sue & Sam. If you look at his tutorials on this site & his over 25 quilts since last May, you know this doll quilt is gorgeous. Also, he sent me a Autumn pumpkin hot pad that I use for a large coaster beside my recliner. After Thanksgiving, I turned it over to the dark green side & continue to use it. Everyone who comes my apt sees it & comments on how much they like it. I tell them it was made by a man & their eyes get wide as I explain how we swap doll quilts.

I couldn't get to Post Office, so my son came to mail it for me. I did do my little shopping tonight without my cane. That is such a liberating feeling to be able to walk independently again. I will be joining another DQS, probably by Spring. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

I do not join swaps. Two years ago I joined my first swap.
The triple 4-patch was the block, they were 6 1/2 inch blocks. Some blocks I received were smaller, I couldn't use them in the quilt. I can't imagine that the persons sending them didn't square them up after piecing and realize they were too small. Some blocks had fabric so thin you could see through it. And I couldn't use them in my quilt. And one set of blocks didn't follow the color requirements. Which was a light/dark 4-patch necessary for the design pattern. So they could not be used in the quilt. Out of 14 blocks I received I could only use 6.
So I threw away more blocks than I was able to use.
I had hoped for a positive experience. Instead I was burned.
    I haven't tried a swap since.
