A friend of mine sent me a picture of the quilt I made for her a while ago. It's a large applique (steam-a-seam with blanket stitch) of Asian fabrics that a different friend had brought back for me from Alaska. After I SID-quilted the top along the sashing, I was stumped. So I decided to tack the center squares down using buttons. 168 buttons later.......It really felt like "mending" at that point.

really neat! I had some buttons on one of my quilts and the silly dog chewed them off.

The boy let him on the bed ;-)

Great idea - it came out perfect! Really adds that extra little interest to the whole quilt. Those are some incredibly beautiful fabrics. Hope you saved some for yourself.

Yeah, I have some left over but I must admit, I am not that Asian-inspired.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.
