I want to let everyone know about a project here in my area. One of the CNA's at the hospital has started a project called "Comforting Blankets". She collects fleece, quilts, materials, cash donations etc to make sure that the cancer patients are given a special blanket or quilt to comfort them while they are going through treatments or hospitalizations. Bobbie has been doing this for about 3 years and in that time she has given away 800 items, many made by her and her family! She includes a poem that she wrote (see below) with each blanket - she is a wonderful poet! - and will be adapting it to use for the peds patients. She is wondering if anyone would be interested in contributing either time (make items), fabric or donations. This has taken off so quickly. She is hoping to expand it to the pediatric units too, and to expand outside this local hospital to the satellite hospitals throughout northern and central maine.
The best size is 50x60". They could be tied, quilted, fleece hemmed or even just tops or fabrics.

Her website is http://comfortingblankets.org if you would like to check it out.
If you have any questions. feel free to PM me... and thank you in advance...

You are loved

With every stitch of this blanket
To every tear that we have shed
We have put our love in you blanket

You are never alone
Just keep this blanket close to you
When you need a hug
This blanket is like
Our arms hugging around you
Give it a gentle hug and you will know
You always have a friend by your side

Our love is yours to keep
Always there for you
Through the happy times and the tears

Let the warmth of the blanket
Keep you safe knowing that there is
Always someone there for you.

thank you for sharing. Very touching with heartfelt poems.
Our quilters here make quilts for the homeless using an old, nice blanket for the backing so they can make more quicker.
