Here's the start of a lap quilt for GD. The block layout I chose needs to have 6-8 inches more on the sides. 1st thought was to use a plain black border about 2" then a 6" row of 9P or pinwheels on each side. Or I think I do have enough of the jazzy cats fabric to do maybe a 3" black then 5" cats.

I used mostly FQs on this so there isn't a lot more fabric but enough to make several of either style of block if somebody has a different/better layout idea.

Planned to use fleece for the back and do it envelope style.

What do ya think? And any advice on using the fleece backing - it's my 1st time there.

Do you have enough cat fabric for an inside border then black for the outside border? I haven't used fleece so can't say on that.

That's very pretty. It has a real old fashioned look to it. GD will love it for many years.

Very nice quilt. I like the idea of the black then jazzy cat borders.

Love this! My son is a professional bass player...he'd really like this! What about narrow black sashing between the squares and then the black border? That would add more inches throughout the quilt and the black is the unifying color to the whole piece. This is really nice!

Got any of the yellow left? I am thinking that would be really nice to finish it off.

I still have to get the fleece so I'll check out colors then. I am thinking black fleece but it could be red or gold. That could help determine borders depending on what I see out and about.

My usual make it up as you go process ;-)

What a great quilt. Love that fabric. I am doing my first fleece backed quilt. We can learn about it together.
