I made this using small 9 patches ( 1.5"). It measures 18" square. The matching ornaments begin with a .75" 9 patch to finish at 2.5"

I have a ledge on the basement stairwell's half wall that I set the 2' tree on and then I decorate it. The skirt drapes over the edge of the ledge just a bit so one can see the little 9 patches.
