okay ... the finished size will be 4" because!
first seam on both sides takes the 5" down to 4.5" ... then you cut in half
turn the two pieces face to face, but a quarter turn, so that you are sewing across the previous seam ... cut apart - -at which point, both four patches are 4.5" square.
Then, when you stitch the four patch into a block or quilt, you take a quarter inch seam allowance all around and now the piece is 4" square - - I was wrong about the 4.5"

Well, that turned out quite nicely!
That buttery yellow seems to really add some bright and richness to your quilt that plain old white just can't do, eh?

Thanks, Omak for the kind words. For me this was a "big" project. I usually do wall hangings and table runners. This tutorial just inspired me.
