So many of you have asked about the border in my "painting for a quilt" post, that I am posting this tutorial.
You need rectangles: 5 5/8" x 2 1/4"
and for triangles, 2 5/8" squares cut diagonally into triangles

and for triangles, 2 5/8" squares cut diagonally into triangles
Line up the corner of the triangle with the corner of the rectangle

these are easy to chain-stitich

Line up another triangle with the opposite corner of the rectangle
[ATTACH=CONFIG]161052[/ATTACH]
Press seams toward triangles and trim points
[ATTACH=CONFIG]161541[/ATTACH]
the points of each piece should "stick out" about 1/4 "

trim the long edges and here's your finished piece

Thank you for taking the time to put this together and share with us. I've tried the technique before and was not totally successful. This provides the encouragement that I need to try it again. I went back and looked at your quilt and I think that the person you traded with got a good deal, also. Hope that you were both happy with your trade.
