Yes, you can do it that way, but you must use your rotary cutter and ruler to get very straight cuts or your block can end up wonky.
Yes, I use my ruler and rotary cutter to cut the strips after they have been sewn. I've made 4 log cabins quilts and find them very easy to make and very striling.

No, after I finish all the blocks, then square them all up before I sew them together.
