Quiltsmith asked me to post this as she has dial up and just cannot access you-tube for this. I used two different fabrics for the 4-patch section, and a focus fabric for the center. There are 14 pics in this tutorial. Please pm me if you have any questions!
Pink square right side up, focus fabric folded in half wrong sides together, white square right side down With all the raw edges on the top, sew down the right side of the pieces. Open the pieces up, Fold the focus (center) block in half wrong sides together, place on top of the pink square Fold the first two squares together, so the folded piece is alone. If the bottom piece is white, place the pink square down, put the folded piece on the right side edge, and put the white block on top. Sew down the right side of that edge. by alternating the blocks, you make a 4-patch color Now you have both sides of the focus block attached to the 4-patch blocks. Note that the top and bottom colors are opposite. Two different 4-patch blocks with one focus block. Al blocks are cut 5 inches square Make sure the edges of the center block are not caught in the top seam. "open" the center block, and match up the left side blocks, pin, then match up the right side blocks. The center block will be a little bunched up. It is important to match up the center seams. I pin the seams open. pin left, center and right sides together Sew down the entire right side, when you get to the center, you may have to do a needle down and 'straighten out' the center a bit. When done, you will have the focus block in the center! I pressed all the seams open, that ensured that the center piece was even with the seams on the front For a little variation you can fold back the edges to give a curved affect. I did plain centers on the Strawberry shortcake and added applique's in the center. |
Thanks Deb, Great tute!

Yep! You got it down pat! Great instructions, it'll be a big help!! Thanks :-P
|
thanks for the tutorial, you are the greatest for taking the time to create this tutorial for all of us
A Big Bear Hug! |
I know that this block has captured the attention of all of us because it is so easy. Yet, those who have dialup are unable to get it! Someone posted a bunch of pretty pictures that we can click on and add - and it inspired me to do some applique' blocks.

Thank U, Thank U...for posting this today. I looked all morning as I thought I had bookmarked (will be now. Great tut....
|
Bless you, Deb!!! I, too, have dialup and can't access this at home. I had looked at it while visiting our library, but couldn't remember some of the fabric positions. You've saved me from a trip to town--no small feat! Predictions are for 10-14" of snow here in the next 24 hours!! I'll be glad to just stay home and sew!!
Thanks again! Sue |
You are so welcome Sue. Now, with all that snow coming, let us see your blocks when they are done! I plan on doing a few NICU quilts like this, but will stitch the center block down as they can get caught on things for the little ones.

Great Tutorial!
|
THank you--I'm going to try this very soon. I love Log Cabin blocks.
|
What a great take on an easy Catherdral Window. Love it!
|
Finally it's sinking in how to do this Deb. I know it's a really simple block and only supposed to take 10 minutes but I've been trying to figure it out for two days and NOW I understand. I even bought the book and just didn't get how it all went together. Maybe I should have gone with different color large blocks instead of all just dark green.
Thanks again for posting this. |
Thank you for the tute :D:D:D
|
Thanks!
|
Thanks Deb! I am going to do this some time. I really like you choice of fabric too.
|
Thanks for the step by step tute as that seems a bit easier to follow for me. I will get around to doing one of these soon, I just know it. Perhaps after the holidays. Again, thanks! Great job!!
|
thank you for the demo

Yes, thanks. I will give this a try after the holidays.
|
can this be done only using 3" squares and 5" in the centre , this is so neat thankyou for taking the time
to show us all . |
I read somewhere that yes you can. You can make them any size you want. I don't remember the restrictions tho. I'm sure someone will.
|
Thank you Deb!
|
This is a great bow tie pattern, been making them for a scrappy quilt for a year, but thank you for the tute.

Thankyou so much Deb.... I really enjoyed your tutorial.
Great job at making this very clear to understand. |
Wow that is very nice. Thanks for the tute.
|
Thank you, Deb, from all of us who are video-instruction-challenged. I prefer having the information at hand, if for no other reason than to look back and see what I did wrong. <G> You folks are so generous and so thoughtful! I love you all! (But I'm spending way too much time on the board lately - and it's all your fault, of course.)

Thank you, that is so nice of you to post. Looks like a great block and so quick to do too.
|
Pretty colors - thanks
|
Thank you so much for the tute! I was having difficulty figuring out how the bow tie block (which the 10 minute block looks like) could take only 10 minutes. How simple, with no set in seams! Thanks.
|
I've seen lots of post mentions of 10-minute blocks, but this is the first explanation I have seen! Only place instrtuctions lost me was pic #6, but I can figure it out from the next one.

This is a video of Suzanne McNeil demonstrating the making her 10-minute block. Hope this helps. Holly |

OK Deb,
I will let you know if I figure it out... I think I may have to do some un-sewing in order to add on to my 1 block I have made. |
