3D tutorial

My twist on how to build a 3D quilt. I used all scraps for mine.
Choose a very dark background for the center triangles You need two of each, light, medium and dark for the "arms" around the center. Take a look at the last photo so you can see color placement Cut 3" strips and use a 60 degree ruler to cut triangles. I find it useful to cut the corners off at 1/4" too. It makes for more accurate piecing. Cut 3" strips and use a 60 degree ruler to cut angles. be sure the bottom edge is 9 1/2" long. As you sew each triangle block together alternate pressing one block to the center and the next block away from the center so they will nest when the finished triangle blocks are sewn into rows. flip the center triangle onto one of the arms and sew from the corner to just over the halfway point of the small triangle. press to the center flip and sew the second piece to the first combo. press to the center. Flip and sew the third piece to the last side. press to the center. finish sewing the first seam (4th) This should have been first so you could look at the layout of the fabric. Each triangle block has a light, medium and dark fabric with a very dark center. Each block color placement has to connect to the next block so placement is very important. I laid out all the pieces before I started to sew. Sew each column of triangles (going down). Sew the triangles in each column together. Sew columns together. I hope this is helpful for any one wanting to try this. peace |

Thanks for the tutorial. Very pretty quilt.

Thanks for the tutorial. Those quilts intimidate so many people, including me. They don't look easy at all. Having it broke down into all the steps is a big help.

Thank you so much for sharing. I can only imagine the time it took.

Thanks for your tute!

I would love to try this. Thanks for the tute.

Not sure I’m skill ready for this technique, but I’m adding it to my someday list. It’s a really interesting effect.

The more I look at it, the better I understand it. Now I need another picture of the complete top. I don't know where to find it on here.
