Thank you Tartan for posting the binding cheat. I am facing this challenge right now.

I want my binding to be 2 and 1/2 in. double fold. Would it be correct to cut the binding I want at 1 and 3/4 inches?
and the scrap fabric 1 and 1/4 inches? Thank you again!

Yes that will work and how do I know? I took a piece of graph paper, cut it to the 1 and 3/4 measurement and another piece at 1 and 1/4 and sewed them together at the machine for 2 and 1/2.:)

Great tip...thanks Tartan. I’ll be sure to try this.

Brilliant! I never would have thought of that. :)

great tip to determine width

Great tip. Thinking if you want the piping look, these measurements might work also, just fold the opposite way.

It could be if the scrap fabric was sewn so it showed on the top. But Tartan is using the other fabric for her 'good' side and the scrap is just extending the width of the fabric,.

I have done it both ways. If you use the wider fabric of some coordinating fabric, then let it show as a flange. Black, red, white and such works well here.
But if you have enough of the good fabric to make that 1 1/2 inch, then the 1 1/4 piece can be any trash fabric. It won't show.

Thanks for the graph paper idea as well!

You are full of wonderful tips Tartan! I appreciate your help. I was going to do a test with fabric today but your graph paper test was a better way go.

Good reminder. Charisma has a tutorial on here called flange binding. Same idea. Works great
