I have read that a few of you tried to add a zipper to the bow tucks. I did too, and thought I would share my technique. It is not perfect. Just before the step to sew the two inside pieces together, I added in my zipper. I sew a folded piece to each side of the zipper with the raw edges to the zipper.

Did I mention that I am on dial up. This is taking forever.
Once I had my bows attached, I tucked the zipper ends down and stitched across them from the inside to keep them out of the way. I cut my zipper connectors too wide. I think cutting them 3" and folding them in half, right sides together and sew the ends, then flipping open and attaching to the zipper would work better. Tuck inside out of way. Thanks for the tutorial. Getting ready to make my fifth bow tuck and wanted to try a zipper. I think you did a great job on your tutorial.
|
Wow, that's great. I like the look of the bag but have not tried it because I really like a zipper in my bags that I use when I travel. It helps a lot when the bag goes through the x ray machine at airports. Thank you so much for the info and the great tute.
|
I think you did a great job. I have been considering making another bag and adding the zipper. This will surely help :) Thanks! :D

dungeonquilter, you are a genius, perfect tut, thank you. I have this bookmarked for sure.

Excellent pics. I've been resisting making one because I really prefer zippers on my bags. I guess I can't procrastinate anymore!

Great Idea. Thanks for sharing.

Nice job-----might have to make one now!

I LOVE the bow tucks!!! I have made several (and given them away; of course)without the zipper!! Now I will have to try some with the zipper!!
I decided that it would make a great diaper bag for my niece and thought... "Oh this will be easy.... I just have to make it bigger"! So I proceeded double the size of the original pattern. YUP!! I doubled the size of every single piece of the pattern..... UH OH!!! Diaper bag?????, she said???? Sure... for the Jolly Green Giant!!!! It was big enough to carry a toddler in; along with a case of diapers!!! LOL!!! It is great as a quilt show bag! I put a queen size and wall hanging in it and still had room for more!! I certainly have gotten a few laughs out of it!  |
Thank you for posting looks great ..must do this
|
I think it came out great. I've had this pattern for awhile now. Kept putting it off thinking I have to have a zipper in it. Last night my daughter came up to me and asked me to make her a purse, so I showed her the bow tucks. Then I went looking because I remember seeing a different tutorial page. So happy to find this. Only hope my turns out this good.

Thank you from me too - I have been making bow tucks like crazy too - friends and family and family friends are all requesting them - I have been wanting to try a zipper but didn't know how. I am a little confused - do you add an extra piece of fabric that attaches to the zipper and the inside pieces of the bag? I think thats what you did - because that would give you the covering over the open part of the bag with the zipper. I think I am just afraid of zippers - never sewn one ever. But I am going to try this...Woo hoo...

thanks
