I hope everyone can understand the direction. I have writen
the on the pictures.

Note : You can make the tail area narrower by making the fold deeper.
You can also applique them in a random display on a large background instead of doing the sereate blocks.

I have been all over the internet trying to find this very thing. Thank you, thank you. I have a collection of MIL and grandmother hankies that I want to turn into a quilt for my SIL with enough for me, too. You were an answer to an unfruitful search. Thank you.

Thank you!
I have been saving hankies just for this. After all the steps are done, do you embroider the antenna on?
thanks again
Linda

I am happy to help. I know there is a different one, but have not figured out how to fold. The one I did was the only I had seen years ago.

Lab55, Thank you so much for this tute...I have hankies that were my mom's who passed away in Sept."09.I have been searching for a pattern to put them into a quilt. So easy to understand...great job.

P.S. Do you have pic of the finished quilt...if so I would love to see it.

Mona Marie 02-08-2011 07:50 AM

I am keeping track of this as I have a lot of old hankies (from Grandmothers) and want to do this

Wendy Keys 02-08-2011 07:52 AM

I have a feeling there are going to be some butterlfy handkerchief blocks in the making! This is so simple and what a wonderful idea. I know what I can do with all those beautiful hankies I inherited from my mother.

Baba71 02-08-2011 08:02 AM

Very good directions.. I made a wall hanging for a friend with her Mom's hankies and she just loved it. It was fun so now I want to make some for my sister-in-law with my mother-in-laws hankies.

judykay 02-08-2011 08:43 AM

Very neat idea, I do not use hankies but got one from a special friend when my daughter go married. Now I know how I can use it.

I hand appliqued the butterfly to the background block, I also did along the "body" on both sides to the block.
