Christmas Ornament

First, I have to apologize to the person where I found this. I looked and looked and looked but could not find the original tutorial so I decided I'd better do one while I still remembered how. This is pretty simple. Start with two circles approximately 8" in diameter and sew them right sides together, leaving about 2" open for turning. After turning right side out, press and slip stitch the opening together.
Next, fold two sides towards center. You should have the color you want to be predominant on the inside of the fold. Tack the sides together. Step 3 - fold the other two sides towards the center and tack them together. Step 4 - Start turning out the "ears" Step 5 - Sew a button in the center to cover your stitches and attach a loop to the back for hanging. I cut a thin strip of felt for mine. (last photo) |
I like it. I will put it on my list of projects to do. Thanks for the tutorial.

Cute, what size does it finish at?
|
I made these last year in two sizes. The original was from a blog called Katrina's Tutorials....Just google that. She also has a simpler one that starts with a triangle...I'm planning on making it next year. Very talented designer.

Fantastic! I'm going to make some of these to attach to gifts, instead of using bows. Thank you!

Hi Sparky's Mom. That's a really nice ornament. My quilt guild does a Hospice tree every year for charity and we are always looking for easy and striking ornaments. This fits the bill. Does anyone know if there is someone we need to contact before using the technique? I see another message mentions Katrina's Tutorials blog. If that's the one, I'll contact her but would also like to use your tutorial as it's very clear.

I like this one a lot - thanks a bunch!

Sparkey's mom, you did a beautiful job on your tutorial for the Cathedral Window Christmas Ornament. Your pictures are great. These can also be made with triangles.
Someone asked about permission to make. The Cathedral Window is an age old design which is in public domain and does not require permission to be made. It is my understanding that you cannot copyright a technique. I will be making these for Christmas, thanks for posting. Happy Stitching to all!!! |

Thank you for the beautiful ornament tutorial. I appreciate the time you took to post the instructions with the photos.
I will be making these ornaments to tie on my packages and decorate my bags. Also, I'll make them as gifts to my quilting buddies. Wishing a day filled with too many blessings to count. |

I made this one yesterday after seeing your tutorial and also looking at Katrina's Tutorial. Thank you.
|
Now if I can figure out how to make a throw pillow cover like that.
|
You start out with an eight inch circle and finish with a 3-1/2" square.
|
It's great. Going to try this one myself. Great tutorial, very easy to follow.
|
those are so pretty...
|
Thanks for sharing. Always looking for cool ornaments to make.
|
Gorgeous, thanks.
|
Very nice!
|
This is beautiful, thank you for taking the time to share with everyone

I've looked at these and thought they would be too complicated so I never even looked at the how to. I am going to make these in different sizes and see what I like. Great idea to use for package decorations that can be used after! Love it.
