I don't know if any of you have ever seen this done before, but I thought I would share it just in case. I thought it made a really pretty lamp shade. Check it out at these two sites:

Thats very pretty, I really like it.
What fun. I haven't glue gunned in a long time.
It looks lovely, but I don't think I have ever seen any coffee filters like those here, I shall have to go and look.
Cute!
Very pretty and romantic looking...but would not remain that way long at our house. Looks like they would be a nightmare to keep dusted:).
Definately diferrent!!
It is pretty - like a wedding accessory but I'd worry about it catching on fire.
I am going to get my shades out of the garage sale box.
I like it and it's very pretty but I'd be afraid it would burn the house down...Heat..paper.....not a good combination!
It might be nice for a temporary decoration such as wedding decor or temporary party decor but I don't know about everyday use. Sounds scarey to me. |

Seriously - we put 3 LEDs in to replace HOT halogens over the kitchen sink. The LEDs cost $26 EACH - YIKES! - but are supposed to last for 27 years! And they use almost NO electricty compared to incandescent. I even put CFL bulbs in the bath fixtures and in the ceiling fan in the sewing room this summer to help keep cool. Sorry for the hijack! I love the lampshade!!! Ohhh, just went back up for another peek and saw your avatar. Could you please overnight us that salmon? LOL I went here for my 50th (at my request): http://www.alaskawilderness.com/a1.htm Love your State! |
I thought about starting a fire also, but, if the filters are glued to a plain shade, then my quess, it couldn't catch fire.
NO way! That's adorable! Last year I got in an Ikea and bought a "blanket" that looks just like this. It's totally puckery and very stretchy and would probably not be what you'd grab if you actually needed a blanket but I love how it looks folded up at the bottom of the bed
I like ti, but the dusting of it gives me the creeps.
Several HGTV programs have made them to use as chandeliers. My house is way too dusty for these.
Wow - that is so cool! Thanks for sharing! I love it when people take the ordinary and turn it into the extraordinary.
I wanted to add that I too LOVE your avatar: you make the cutest little fishergirl out there! My brother and his wife live in Fairbanks and he did overnight everyone in our family some salmon for Christmas one year. It was terrific!
very cute.
ssgramma, your requested place to visit is like heaven on earth. I have wanted to go to that place too. Maybe one of these days.
This was a good year for getting our Salmon in for the year. I smoked quite a lot too. Ladies, lampshades are made out of flammable material. The idea is to put the filters on the outside of the lampshade where nothing can ignite it so I don't think fire would be the problem. Most lampshades have something on the outside of them for decoration, cloth, paper, plastic and they are all flammable. I thought about the dust too and figured I could take it outside and use one of those cans of compressed air to blow it off or even shake it lightly in a good wind storm :) It isn't any different than a cloth lampshade in that respect. How do you dust and clean your lampshades with cloth or paper on them now? Just a thought. |
I will say it is different

We have shipped salmon to our family too and I can tell you it gets expensive to do that. I took some down to my brother and mom when I went to my Niece's wedding in August. At least on the plane it only cost $20 to take 50 lbs. They really want halibut but that is a whole different issue. We would have to pay around $250 each to go out on a boat plus accommodations, food, gas etc. Then have it shipped, well.......Your looking at very expensive fish by then. The limit is 2 per person and the majority of charters take you where everyone can get their two fish but they are really small. Not worth it at all. I save money by getting it from one of the fish processing places in Seward. Plus I don't have to contend with sea sickness which seems to have become my new peeve. |
I seen that done on a design show. All I could think about is the DUSTING, and the ends raveling lol.. looks pretty now. :) nice job
Oh seasickness.... :hunf: it ruins many a nice day out on the water for me too. So you are a land locked fishnlady eh? It sure doesn‘t seem to be holding you back any.
If you want to talk about funny sayings how about yours? Gosh I can already think of a lot of times it would have been healthier if it was socially correct be able to respond like a dog...Pee on it and walk away! Ha! Your mention of halibut and fishing from a boat brings to mind something funny that happened once when we were out on Homer Spit. (Back before it got so touristy and the Salty Dog really was salty) My mother and my aunt were strolling along the beach, when this "really nice man" struck up a conversation and then offered to take them out on his boat while he checked his lines. They were thrilled and went with him. A little while later, after they were far out on the water, my aunt motions surreptitiously to my mom to look at something this man has stowed on his boat: a handgun. They are just exchanging their first nervous glances when the man notices. He quickly reassured them and explained that the gun was to shoot the halibut after he hauled them up, so the fish wouldn’t knock a hole in the boat or break one of his limbs. Now that is some big fish! They ended up having a wonderful time. As far as dust goes on this kind of fancy lamp shade… other than a good wind storm LOL :D … you an use a blow dryer pretty successfully to get off any dust. |
Lara, I can just see those two wondering what they might have gotten themselves into. I had a chuckle over that story.
The blow dryer is a great idea. Much better than a wind storm. LOL |
That is so cool. I would love to something like that. Hmmm I think I will. Thanks for sharing.
Very lovely...
The only place in my house it would work is in my bedroom... it's off limits to my four dogs. |
wow are the neat looking and it is very interesting, but I would be agraid they would start on fire. Are they fire retardent? Great idea though.....
They are beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
I love the look too. But I agree it wouldn't stay that way long in my house lol
Texas is so dry and everything is dusty! |
Awesome!!
Very Clever idea
This would be great in a guest room or a smaller one in a powder room, cute.
pretty, but dust collecting and dim light.
Very cute! Thanks for sharing. I just may use that idea for a lamp in my guest room.
L.O.V.E this idea! Would be awesome in a nursery, with a soft blue or pink bulb glowing through the filters!
Thank you for posting this tute. I love to learn from everyone who takes the time to do this.
Well that is cute!!
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

This is very pretty but it would have to be taken outside and shaken everyday to keep it dust free.
