fusable interfacing 3/4" wide

Start your printing area at least 10- 12" from end of binding

Hope this helps anyone who is interested in doing this on their quilts. I add jokes, favorite sayings, and sometimes bible verses along with all the regular info you put on a quilt.

Very interesting. Will consider it for a future quilt

Oh, I'm so going to try this. My sister is having her 3rd baby boy this summer. For the others, I've custom ordered satin edged blankies with their birth info and night-time prayer on the binding. For this one, my Janome 6600 should be able to do it. Now I just need to take the time to figure it out.

Krystyna 05-06-2013 04:46 AM

I forgot to mention that I used lettering in the size 5.5mm.

And if your machine has a single pattern button set it at one (1) repeat.

You don't want the information to continue repeating after it has finished sewing the info. That is the way my machine works. Others may work differently.

Congratulation. One of my favorite sayings to put on baby quilts is:

"Every child is a story yet to be told".

And another is:

"Nothing is worth more than this day".

tuckyquilter 07-19-2013 09:20 PM

It would be a terrific way of labeling the quilt too.

Helen S 07-21-2013 07:21 AM

Such an awesome idea! Thanks for posting...I really dislike doing labels!

crcindy 07-27-2013 08:39 PM

What a neat idea! Thanks for the tutorial!

reneaunoel 09-28-2013 05:41 AM

I love this idea. I know hate is a strong word, but I really do hate making a big, story label! Now I can do a small "created with love" label, and put the story around the edge! Nice way to think "outside the box", literally! Thank you!

hperttula123 09-29-2013 06:41 PM

how fun can that be. I can do that on one of my machines and I hope I remember to do this. You could put who it was made by or the year. I think it would be special for the kids to put their names or something funny on it.

almostfree 11-29-2013 07:09 PM

This is great! I did this on a my daughter and SIL's wedding signature quilt. It turned out wonderfully well, and now the date of their wedding will always be on their quilt. Thanks for the tut!

luvrazz 12-10-2013 08:35 AM

Great idea!
Did you put the interfacing on the entire binding or just the area to be labeled???

I put the interfacing only on the part that is being used for the lettering. I always do a test printing first on a piece of scrap fabric and that gives me the length for the interfacing I need to cut for the actual printing.

I will put something on each of the four edges of the quilt so no matter which way you hold it there is a little saying or joke or quotation. I also add the name of the quilt, the pattern, date, who it is made for and my name.

Hope you get a chance to try this and post your project for everyone to enjoy.

shirleyd 12-10-2013 05:43 PM

Thanks for the tutorial! What a cool idea and I'm going to practice doing it. Do you have the writing showing on the right side of the quilt?

ube quilting 12-14-2013 08:26 AM

The writing will be on the back of the quilt binding but if you wanted to there is no reason why it couldn't be done so it is on the front. Just reposition where you put the printing.

Thank you for answering. I hope to try it soon. My machine does lettering but I haven't perfected it yet.
