I had a few requests for instructions for completing the corner blocks of the autumn-themed retirement quilt that I posted a few weeks ago.

There was enough fabric left over that I made a second quilt and did a tutorial for the corner blocks as I made it.

Excellent! thanks for posting. I hate boring corners. I'm going to use this.

jeaninmaine 10-05-2011 11:52 AM

Thank you so much, love your corners.

I've tried opening this file and it does not seem to open all in one document? Is it just me?

jeaninmaine 10-05-2011 02:04 PM

Mine opens, which version of Word are you using?

It's a .docx file, done in MSWord 10. PM me with your e-mail address and I can convert it for earlier versions if you'd like.

GrannyW5 10-05-2011 03:05 PM

Very very nice

no, i can't open it either. i googled .docx and found that you have to have a newer version of Word to open it. i've run across this many times on the board.

Is there a reason you need to miter the corners? This would go together much easier as blocks without the miters?

rainbow quilter 10-05-2011 04:02 PM

No, you don't need to miter the corners. You can do them with straight cuts, but I like the way that the mitered corners look better.

needles3thread 10-05-2011 04:39 PM

me too! thank you.

AnnaK 10-05-2011 06:21 PM

If I look at all the sizes of the pieces, I'm sure I could figure out the size, but what size will the finished block (and border) be? Thanks for the tute. What an interesting way to do a border.

Bren 10-05-2011 06:40 PM

Great instructions; loove this border and will use soon. Thanks so much!

NanaCsews2 10-05-2011 07:32 PM

If you can't open up a .docx file because you have an older version of WORD, you could try by downloading Microsoft's Office compatibility pack free. This should allow you to open those files when yours only opens .doc files.

Great tut. Thanks.

Love your quilts, they are beautiful. I can't unzip the file for the tutorial. Is there another way you can send/post it? Thanks.

I agree....as we miter corners on quilts and miter the binding corners I think the mitering here adds a finished, polished look. Thanks for the tute!

I forgot to add one of the most important things!

The blocks are 8"x8" and the matching border is 8" wide. It can be adjusted by using narrower or wider strips.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you.

Thank you! The PDF works great, especially as I use my IPad in my sewing room. RIP Steve Jobs. What a genius he was.

I'd like to see the original picture you posted of your quilt. (I think it's your avatar and it's a beauty!) I'd like to see more detail. I did a search and couldn't come up with anything. Thanks for the tute on the corner. I've already printed it out to use. Wish I could share something just as helpful with you in return.

Nancy O. 10-06-2011 06:11 AM

Thanks for sharing !!!!

The blocks are 8"x8" and the matching border is 8" wide. It can be adjusted by using narrower or wider strips.

Quick question.... Is the 8" finished or unfinished?
Thanks!! I love this block!

The other blocks are from Jinny Beyer's "The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns: 4050 Pieced Blocks for Quilters"

Could you post a link to your autumn themed quilt so that we can see what it looks like on the quilt?
Thank you so much for this. It's so very well done and with gorgeous fabrics!

I actually made two using the same border. I had enough scraps left over from the first to make a second. Both are here -
