How to hand stitch a grandmother's flower garden block

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, that is what you will be getting. I'm not sure how I'll give instructions along. But, please bear with me. First you sew the middle hexagon to the first petal by placing them right sides together and stitching across the top. Then you place your second petal and sew it into the L of the two pieces.

I hope you can see the progression of how to sew each petal on. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

no thimbles? when do you sleep? thanks for the pix, you seem to have no problems sewing them together...looks like it would keep me busy--now if I could just sit for more than a few minutes....LOL

I do this only when I sit and watch TV. It relaxes me.

thanks for taking the time to show us this technique

That is exactly how I do mine, too. It works for me easier than EPP.

Your instructions look great. Very easy to follow. Are you going to do the next round? Or is this to be appliqued?

It looks like you sew from edge to edge--not ending 1/4". Is that right? How do you press the seams?

This must be how my grandmother did her flower garden blocks, because I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have done EPP.

Thanks for the pics. It gives me an even greater appreciation of my grandmother's creation that was hand pieced AND hand quilted!
