anniehug 02-15-2011 05:48 AM

I was just thinking the same (what the title meant). The block looks good though!

It's a quilt pic that I posted earlier, and several members had asked me how to make the quilt.

Twinnie 02-15-2011 06:37 AM

Is having so much stark white a part of the overall pattern when several are sewn together?

It's actually not stark white- If you look at the original pics of the quilt, you'll see I used off whites, and pale golds and pale greens. In the tute, my camera flash made those fabrics look very white.

Elliotsgreatgrandma 02-15-2011 07:11 AM

Can you post a picture of your origional quilt. I like the look. Gail

I have posted one on the border- it's called brick walk

The quilt is about 65" square. Do you mean are the fabrics identical in each block? no, I used alot of different fabrics. If you mean did I make each one the same way? yes, I did.

KimmieH 02-15-2011 10:24 AM

thanks ;) i meant fabrics identical.

penski 02-15-2011 11:01 AM

Can I make a suggestion? When making a log cabin, don't cut your strips before you sew them on. Sew them on and then cut. Saves lots of time. The only ones I cut before are the center pieces.

Yes, you can do it that way, but you must use your rotary cutter and ruler to get very straight cuts or your block can end up wonky.

sassey 02-15-2011 01:29 PM

Thanks so much for the tut when you posted a pic of your quilt I looked and wanted to do one, but thought oh that is way to hard for me. I have only made a couple rag quilts and a couple strip quilts But now I feel like I can make this quilt if I can manage to cut straight lol

It looks harder than it is! And if you don't think you can do the brick walk border, you could just do a fabric strip border. Keep us posted!

Corky 02-15-2011 01:41 PM

Thanks! You did a great job!

Yes, I use my ruler and rotary cutter to cut the strips after they have been sewn. I've made 4 log cabins quilts and find them very easy to make and very striling.

Ann912 02-15-2011 04:31 PM

Absolutely beautiful.

G'ma Kay 02-15-2011 05:13 PM

No, after I finish all the blocks, then square them all up before I sew them together.
